CHALLENGE

The task was to create a campaign for a local business that would encompass a variety of different media. I choose Gay City, a local non-profit that specializes in community outreach.

SOLUTION

My approach was to endear with humor. I worked with Photographer Sean Balco to capture a seemingly random series of images that are made funny with the memorable tagline "Protect Your Junk". I also did layout for event fliers sent to potential sponsors.

STYLE GUIDE

Gay City has an existing and extensive style-guide. All events and departments are color-coded with a specific geometric texture. The text hierarchy is clear, with headlines in strong, graphic Ostrich Sans Bold, sub-heads in Rokkitt bold, and body copy in thick, legible Oswald.

EVENT PROMOTION LAYOUT

Gay City mails out flyers to potential event sponsors. In this instance, I was asked to provide a new layout for the sponsor flyer of The Gay City Oscar Party. I followed the style guide, created vector icons and color coding to distinguish the different levels of sponsorship, and added photos from the previous year’s event, as well as illustrations.

ANTI-MOOD BOARD

In my research for AIDS prevention campaigns, I found many aggressive and frankly terrifying images (beneath). I felt that Gay City should take the opposite approach, with a strong sense of humor (see right).

FINAL ADVERTISING

Here is the ad in situ: as a web giff, a poster, and newspaper ad.
